THINGS TO DO IN LONDON THIS WEEKEND: 20TH – 22ND MAY

At a loose end when it comes to the weekend ahead? We’ve got you covered with our top things to do in the city…

1. VOGA, splash & brunch

German Gymnasium 'VOGA, Splash & Brunch'

Fitness pop-ups are the ultimate summer trend this year, and German Gymnasium is getting in on the action with a ‘VOGA, Splash & Brunch’ event. What on earth is this VOGA business? A style of yoga inspired by Madonna, involving movements to boost self-confidence, energy flow and serotonin levels, duh. Strike a few power poses down by King’s Cross Pond, go for a dip and then tuck into a healthy brunch in the Grand Café.

2. Stoke Newington Literary Festival

Stoke Newington Literary Festival

Returning for its 6th year, the Stoke Newington Literary Festival is the trendiest celebration of books we’ve ever heard of. The program runs all weekend, with talks from bee keepers, a debate about the history of punk and a Game of Thrones pub quiz absolutely topping our list.

2. Spitalfields Music Summer Festival

Spitalfields Summer Music Festival

If music is more your thing than literature, the Spitalfields Music Summer Festival is definitely your go-to this weekend. With events running all weekend and throughout the rest of June, the festival is about bringing music to unexpected venues like museums, cafes, gardens and even cemeteries. And whilst you’re in the area, head down to Old Bengal Bar for a cocktail on their Jungle Book garden terrace – it would be rude not to.

4. London Bridge City Summer Festival

London Bridge City Summer Festival

Ok – one last festival. The London Bridge City Summer Festival kicks of this week too, with a ridiculously good line up of events all season long. Look out for live music and dance classes this weekend, followed by open air films later in the year. Our suggestion: take in a salsa class on Sunday, then stroll down to the Cantina del Ponte terrace to watch the sunset with a Pococello cocktail in hand.

5. Social Sunday

100 Wardour St - Social Sunday

We love the recent movement of restaurants supporting charities – who else had a sore head after Auction Against Hunger last week? This weekend, Head Chef of 100 Wardour St, Liam Smith Liang is joining in with Jason Atherton’s ‘Social Sunday’ in support of Hospitality Action. He’ll be heading over to City Social to co-host a five course lunch with their Head Chef, Paul Walsh. Tickets available here.
